National Mathematics Day
National Mathematics Day is celebrated annually on December 22 in India to honour the birthday of Srinivasa Ramanujan, a famous Indian mathematician who made significant contributions to the field of mathematics. Ramanujan was born on December 22, 1887 to a humble Iyengar Brahmin family, in Erode, Tamil Nadu, India. He made numerous contributions to the field of mathematics, including the development of new techniques for solving mathematical problems and the discovery of many new mathematical theorems.
National Mathematics Day was instituted by the Government of India in 2012 to recognise the contributions of Ramanujan and to promote the study of mathematics in the country. The day is celebrated with various events and activities, including lectures, workshops, and competitions, aimed at promoting the study of mathematics and encouraging students to pursue careers in the field.
In addition to celebrating the achievements of Ramanujan, National Mathematics Day also serves to raise awareness about the importance of mathematics in various fields and its role in shaping the modern world. It is an opportunity for people of all ages to learn about the beauty and power of mathematics and to appreciate its relevance in our everyday lives.
